  1. If she is doing all this at 3 I hope she makes a good broodmare because that is all she is going to be able to do when her legs fall off her body.  Sorry...too harsh perhaps...

Really, I'd  need pictures to make the call. I would require that she had a perfect disposition as well as all this listed.  "Prospect" does not hold a lot of weight in this day and age - you horse better be proven before you breed.  What bloodlines?  What has she won?  The competition for the colt will have it all going, so why bring another mediocre horse into the world that you won't be able to give away in today's market?  If you are planning to keep the colt yourself, why not just buy?  You can get a lot of super nice weanlings/yearlings that would be just as nice as any you can produce for less than $100 at about any horse sale.  Save a lot of money, and keep one more horse out of the kill pen instead of adding one more yourself.

So unless your horse looks something like this http://www.justapleasure.com/ I would say don't breed her.

  2. She sounds great!  Just please don't breed her for the sake of breeding her! There are so many un wanted horse just because the horse has broken down.

  3. She's a baby number one and you should get her broke, show her and then think about it wait until she's at least 5 before you breed her, if you don't, you can stress out other parts of her body that are not fully grown yet.  Number two, without a pedigree or pictures, it's hard to tell you yes she would be.  Number three, WHY would you want to breed with the price of horses in the tank?

  4. I doubt it. Here are my reasons:

    1. Is she registered? If she isn't she is defiantly not breeding quality

    2. It sounds like she isn't really "geared" towards a specific discipline and she doesn't have a preformance record. To consider her breeding quality she would need a preformance record (not just small open shows or 4-H, breed shows/points)

    3. You say she has great bloodlines, but I have never heard of Cherokee? I have been around stock horses (AQHA & APHA) my whole life (so about 15 years) and I know almost all the good bloodlines.

    4. Her conformation is still kind of iffy. I mean, almost everybody thinks their horses are great and have awesome conformation. I would have to see a picture before I could tell what her conformation really looks like.

    5. There are tons of horses going to slaughter and the horse market is horrible for average horses. Unless she has great conformation, is registered, has a preformance record and points, good bloodlines, and a good disposition and was bred to a world class stallion with a ton of accomplishments that produced high quality foals their isn't much of a chance that she would produce a foal that would be worth more than $1000. If you just want a foal to work with and have experiance training young horses you could get one from an auction for less than $500 .

  5. good, we arent going to give compliments.

and nope, you didnt say if she was a purebred or anything.

i wouldnt breed, only because there are thousands of horses going to slaughter.

  6. do you want the foal?  if not then probably no since she is three and a prospect in everything.  I would put some points on her before I bred her anyways.

I assume she is a registered paint,  then go out for her ROM in something that you both enjoy.  even if you want the foal it will not only make the foal worth more if you have to sell it, but may even give you some leverage to get a better stud fee.

word to the wise, there are people GIVING away top quality horses in every breed right now, and national champions are going for as low as $500   so I would not breed period unless you have someone who wants the foal.

  7. super hard to tell just from words. from the sounds of it, she should be fine having 1 or 2 in her lifetime. also give lifetime earnings, accomplishments, registered?, ect...

  8. Until a mare is "proven", meaning she's successfully conceived and carried a foal to term and delivered a healthy baby, her broodmare status cannot be stated.  The safest age to start breeding is four.  A mare is more mature and developed by then and her bones are finished growing for the most part.  But even the best bred mare with the best confirmation is a question mark until she's delivered a winning foal.  Only time and breeding will tell.  You can improve her chances by choosing the best stallion by a reputable breeder, have your vet do a breeding exam before you breed (any good stallion owner will require this), and make sure she gets proper feed, supplements and shots.  Good luck if you decide to try.

  9. .............waiting on photo while I am trying to figure out why you would want to make her a brood mare as she seems to be a good using horse, young and well rounded in her training.

  10. Have to see conformation. Because if the conformation is bad then people should NOT breed.  You have to list the bloodlines, also. You horse is 3yr. the show record couldn't be all that. So the conformation will help determine if so.

  11. Quarter Filly. I love Abbi, she would make a wonderful broodmare considering she is worth over $20,000 dollars with her excellent training. Never thrown a buck or a rear. Wonderful conformation!! Her fillies would be adorable and lovely. Breed Abbi!!

    :)

  12. Cherokee Is an EXCELLENT bloodline in the western world. Abbi is a great horse! She is now jumping succefully! We are focusing on hunter right now but will later be doing dressage! She has great confirmation and is worth  ALOT!  She is the prettiest thing!
