Will my insurance under my parents get canceled?

I am 19 years old and am a full time student. I will be on my parents Medical insurance for three more years (until I graduate) but if I accept a full time position at a company that offers Medical Insurance, will I be dropped from my parents? I have heard that if your company offers it you will not longer be able to have coverage under your parents even if you are still a full time student.

Also, I live in TN so I need TN specific answers.

  1. OK, it's going to depend on the PLAN.  BUT, if you do have coverage through another plan, THAT plan has to be PRIMARY over your parent's plan.

Once you are no longer a dependent of your parents - once they can't claim you as dependent status on their taxes - it's highly possible that you will be dropped.  And if you make more than $6,000 a year, you'll have to file your OWN taxes.

  2. How would they know you had a job that offerd it. I worked for 2 years at a job that offerd insurance, I did not have to take it, it was optional and I got insurance clear up untill the cut off date through my parents. I didn't even go to school the enitre time, but I did live at home which makes a differnce.

  3. no, because you dont HAVE to take the insurance your employer offers. therefore, there is no way of the insurance you currently have to find out that you were offered other insuance.

  4. It all depends on the insurance policy your parents have and where they work.  I had a full-time job throughout college that offered insurance, but I was still covered by my parents.

They're probably going to have to get in contact with their HR/Insurance people to find out for sure.
