  1. you will need to go to M B K and get it unlocked, new sim card, last I heard about $50-100.

  2. I don't know but there are Thais who will buy off you for $1,000.00. I'm not kidding.

If I were you I'd leave at home and pick up a phone in Thailand. There's tons of them and they're not too expensive. Then you can just buy a sim card (I think about $10 US) and pick up refills at 7/11 when you need more minutes. It's really cheap over there and easy to do.

Seriously, those new iPhones are high profile items there. We've honestly had people offer us a thousand US dollars to bring one back for them. That's like a years salary for some people in Thailand.

I worry seeing your iPhone might prove too tempting of a target for someone.

  3. If you have a contract through AT&T or your phone is locked you'll need to get it unlocked as Karen said, for it to work in Bangkok with a local sim card. iPhones work on a GSM platform which is fully compatible with most of the service providers in Thailand, although 3G is not yet available in the Bangkok area. You most likely won't be able to access some of the features of your phone with a Thai sim card and keep in mind that you will have a new local number when your purchase a Thai sim card but can easily switch back to your old sim card to access all the phone's features and your old number.
