Question:

Will my kittens ever love eachother??

I have a 7 month old ragdoll and I just brought a 3 month old ragdoll home. They are both females and the sweetest kittens... HOWEVER my 7 month old hates the kitten, hissing and swatting. She is ok if I hold the kitten and if she can lay away from the kitten and watch it play. The problem is the kitten just wants to play with the older one, and the older one will hiss and swat anytime the kitten comes up to her. We are currently keeping the kitten in her own room, my older kitten is starting to get used to the scents and is starting to sit outside the door and just watches it. Has anyone introduced 2 kittens?? Whats your advice? How long does it normally take???

  1. This is not exactly your scenario, but I think I can help. I have a 15monthold male and just recently acquired 2 7wk old kitties one male and one female. I live in a 2 bedroom apt. My 15mth old cat can open the bedroom doors so i kept them in their carrier at night and let them out during the day. He hissed at them and swatted at them. It took a week, now he holds them down and cleans them , he tries to play with them, but he is too bid they weigh only 2 pds, but it is working, slowly but sirely  Good Luck

  2. They may never ‘love’ each other (just like people can’t be expected to love everyone they are thrown together with) but the 7 mo old will probably eventually at least learn to tolerate the baby.  It will just take some time.  Giving her some ‘kitten free’ space in the house will help.  Make an effort to discourage the kitten from jumping all over her if you can help it.

When I introduced one of my cats to a new friend they hated each other on sight, it was maybe a month or so when I came home and found them both sleeping on my bed.  They weren’t cuddled up or anything, but the fact that they were sharing the bed at all was a good sign.  To this day they aren’t all lovey dovey with each other but they get along just fine.

  3. it really depends on the cat's personality. Right now you're probably doing the right thing and letting them hang out together through the door, to get used to each other's scents. Give them time and they might start to like each other. Problem is that often, females will always hate each other. :(  Not ALWAYS, but sometimes.

Again, give them time and see. You might just end up with two cats that sometimes tussle and probably won't cuddle and be cute, but won't kill each other or anything. My two females pretty much just stare each other down once or twice a day, and sometimes punch each other, but otherwise ignore each other.

But then, one of them is an anti-social (rhymes with witch...) and hates everything furry with four legs.

so, just don't worry, and let them get used to each other.
