I have a single shaft tail finch and I feel like he is lonley so I want to get him a companion. I have been unable to find any other shaft tail finches---my local pet store does have Zebra Finches, Society Finches and one bronze wing finch----would any of these be suitable??? I want to make sure before hand.

  1. It depends on what other species of finches, and also on the finch.  My zebra finches were always aggressive towards the waxbills, which are smaller and leaner.

If you want him with another finch, I suggest a finch of either the same species or a diff. type of finch with about the same size and shape.

Another thing is gender - again depending on the individual finch.  My male zebra finch hates any other male finch.

  2. They can be aggressive sometimes with smaller waxbills - so just make sure you get something equivalent in size.

Canaries would work; or masked grass finches.

Societies would probably be okay, but I'd steer clear of mannakins (that's what a Bronze wing is) and Zebs.
