Question:

Will my new buck bond with my doe?

To keep my rabbit company I have bought her a buck to bond with. However whilst they are not fighting they sit at opposite ends of the cage. Will they bond eventually, or have I made a mistake? I only got him today.

  1. If they are both intact, separate the NOW. The female is probably already pregnant. If you get the male neutered, you can start bonding them after the litter is weaned and the doe spayed, in about 3 1/2 months.

If they are both fixed, separate them anyway. They need to be introduced slowly on neutral territory. They may eventually get along, but it can take months to fully bond them.

Separate the rabbits for now, get both of them fixed, do lots of research then start bonding.

  2. Two things to consider here.  One, unless you want more bunnies, and that means the responsibility of finding happy homes for those bunnies also, make sure they're both 'fixed'.  They will be better and calmer pets.

The other thing is that rabbits are territorial. Especially does.  Often if you have a buck and get him a girlfriend, things work out.  BUT having a doe and bringing a man to HER house is different!!  She doesn't want him there.

Try getting a new cage. Either one for each of them, or a new one they can get used to together.

Also,  just like people, some will get along and some won't.  But my bet is the cage issue..  It's her house and does don't like visitors. :-)

Good luck with Madame Hare and her new friend

  3. Are either of them fixed?  If not, they'll end up bonding... well enough that you'll have a bunch of baby rabbits to try to find good homes for, since you probably can't afford to keep them all, and even then you'd have to keep them healthy until they actually get homes with people you trust with them.  That kind of care would get very expensive.

  4. if they are fixed then they wont bond. but send me a tape of when they're havein s*x with each other!

  5. they will bond within 24-72 hours normally, they will be seperate because they are both nervous and do not want to "give in". They will love each other and play together once bonded. dont worry, you did the write thing, i hope he is caestrated though!
