Will my parakeets ever mate?

I have 3 girls and 2 boys in the same cage and i want to know if they'll ever mate. When does a female parakeet become fertile and will she ever lay infertile eggs? Do they always need a nest to mate? Thanks.

They need a nest box to mate. Please don't provide one and don't breed your budgies. There are more than enough homeless budgies as there is. Breeding is not something to be trifled with.

they probably will mate and they do not need a nest to mate but u can get one for them its a good choice to get one b4 they lay there eggs.:)hope u get eggs.

please separate the males from the females if you don't want infant birds.

females will lay duds and watch for egg binding.

Your parakeets will probably mate. Their breeeding season is mainly Spring but they will mate any time of the yar. If they are going to breed, make sure you have 2 nesting boxes which are identicle. The females will fight over the best one so if you have 2 which are the same, they won't have to fight. A female parakeet doesn't become fertile, she has to mate with a male before the eggs become fertile. Then you will know that the eggs will be babies. If they don't mate, they will be unfertile and a little bit transparent and pinkish. If the egg is fertile, then it will be mily white. They don't always need a nest to mate. They mate when they know that they are. Make sure you seperate the females from the males for a month so the female doesn't get stressed out from it. This is an example of when to take out the females or males.

January - males and females

February - females

March - males and females

April - females

May - males and females

and so on.
