i was in an accident and mind you im 17 years old, i have insurance. the thing is i was driving my friends car. someone crashed into me after running a redlight so it was their fault. the police told me i still have to contact my insurance co. to report the accident (even if there was no injury or deaths) im wondering if i report it will this show up on anything in my dads paperwork? since he manages all this stuff. the police told me there wont be any report. so if i report it over the phone what will happen? i have AIG by the way . thank you.

  1. You really need to tell your parents. Honesty is the best policy.

  2. You don't have to call your insurance company.

You do have to make a statement to the other driver's insurance company, and to your friend's, if your friend notifies his insurancy company.  That's done over the phone.

If the other guy's insurance is any good, they'll pay up without hassle and that'll be that.

p.s.  give careful consideration to santosh's advice.

  3. the process basically is you report it to your insurance, they will investigate the claim to confirm who is at fault and inspect the vehicles, etc.  this entails calling your home, sending letters to your home, making an appointment to look at the vehicle if they need to.  if you report it, chances are your dad will find out.  if you weren't at fault, then why would you be afraid to tell your father?

  4. Unless I am missing something here, I don't see a need to notify your insurance company if you were driving a friends car.  It is the friends insurance company who must be notified.  Your car insurance has nothing to do with your friends car insurance

  5. insurance company will contact the owner of the car when you submit any claim or any report to them.. so check on that..

tell your father wat happened before the insurance guys turnup

  6. if you are not at fault nothing will happen to your dad's insurance rates. The person who is found at fault of the accident will have to pay for the damage through the insurance company they have. You will not get into trouble as long as you didn't do anything wrong . Your dad will just be happy that you and your friend will not hurt. (unless he is a complete ***). the person that ran into is at fault so he is the ones that will be charged for the damages and his insurance rates are going to increase and if he ran from the scene then he could do jail time.

    Nothing will happen to you

  7. First, you were driving a friend's car, which means the coverage follows the vehicle --- not the driver.  Your friend's insurance carrier is the one to contact.  Why call them?  Many issues go wrong following an accident.  The best news is the police were involved.  That will help to protect you, but I'm more concerned about whether your friend's policy actually permits other drivers, and sorry, but there is a possibility it won't cover drivers under 21... in that case YOUR insurance carrier may need to be called after all.  Some states are under no fault insurance, which means it doesn't matter who was at fault, each carrier repairs their own vehicle first, and then seeks subrogation later (after the case goes to traffic court).
