I'm an American citizen moving to Ireland with my husband for graduate school. We just found out I'm pregnant. Will my health costs relating to the pregnancy and birth be covered under European Union laws?

  1. Personally, I don't know.  Maybe you should take this up with the UK & Ireland version of Yahoo! Answers.  Click United Kingdom at the bottom of this page.

  2. If the duration of the course your husband is taking is one academic year or more, you will be considered ordinarily resident in Ireland and you will be able to apply for a means tested Medical Card which would cover you for free health services.  If the course is less than a year you may be entitled to public treatment under the Urgent Health Services which includes pregnancy.
