Question:

Will my rice come out good?

ok I am going to toast the rice in veg oil andwhen it is all toasted or (light brown i am going to add chicken boullion and water (maybe chicken broth) and boil on high and then when it starts to boil i am going to let it simmer for 20 min.

I have never tried this before.

Sounds simple huh? but if the rice comes out wrong i am going to have to start all over :(

I also have a jar of enchilada sauce should i add some?

main dish will be chicken mole and i am pretty confident that that will turn out fine.

  1. I, add a pinch of garlic,cumin spices to mine. you forgot the tomatoe sauce.


  2. First, Good for you getting into the "Joy and fun of cooking"  if the rice comes out wrong.....you can always fix it...depending on what was the problem....if too dry add 1/2 cup  water and let it steam longer.  

    If you are going to make it Mexican you can add the "enchilada sauce" .....you might want to get some nice cheese to top it off...white crumbling cheese from goats milk. Queso de Cabra.

    When you cook rice, the main thing is to get the measurements right.most rice takes 2 cups of water or stock for each cup of rice..

    When the water and rice boils then turn down the heat to the lowest  then put a lid on top and don't lift it until the time is up. For most brands and types of rice it takes 20 to 30 minutes. It's best to read the instructions on the bag.

    If you have some celery, onion, green pepper and parsley it adds so much flavor to a vegetarian  rice dish. Plus a variety of spices depending on what ethnic dish you are preparing.

    For example for Italian:

    oregano

    basil

    rosemary

    garlic

    red pepper

    black pepper

    salt

    Mexican:

    oregano

    cumin

    garlic

    chile peppers mild or hot

    Chinese:

    garlic

    onion

    shallots

    ginger root

    bok choy cabbage

    carrots

    If you keep these things on hand you can make a variety of dishes with rice being the side dish along with a dish of fruit for a easy dinner that you can start on early and have it ready in no time at all. It just takes some planning and organization to make cooking fun and a learning experience if making something for the first time.....

  3. Not if you toast your rice until light brown...you just need to warm up the rice until it becomes translucent before adding the broth or water. For the rest of your rice cooking steps, it seems pretty standard. Happy cooking!

  4. u should add some onions too, it gives it more flavor, sounds like ur making white rice, if u want to make red rice then add the enchilada sauce too it taste real good the best brand i recommend is EL PATO sauce make sure its the yellow can

  5. If the rice is coated in oil, it will be harder to absorb the water or stock; that's why arborio risotto requires so much handling.

    Give it a try-rice is cheap; er correction-was cheap until today.
