-2.25 for distance and plus 2.25 for near and about 2.75 for astigmatism. I will definitly get the thinnest lens, probably 1.74 hi index. Will they look okay? Anybody have any ideas how thick it will look?

  1. Footprintz has given you some good information....as usual.

All I would like to add is the importance of eye safety. If you are talking about complete rimless, 3 piece drill mount, then you should consider other materials like Trivex or polycarbonate. Hi-index lenses are great for cosmetics, but don't offer the safety of other materials. While poly does not have the same index as some hi-index lenses, it offers superior impact resistance. If you have any impact to the face from a fall, sports or car accident, poly will protect your eyes from further damage. Both materials offer great impact resistance and would reduce the thickness of your lenses. Poly does have the occasion to crack where the holes are drilled, SOMETIMES. Trivex is known to not do that, so it would be a better choice. However, the choice in progressive is limited to only a couple, while poly is available in everything. So that is my 2 cents worth. Hope we have helped you make a good choice.

  2. That depends on some different factors that we don't know.

The axis that your astigmatism correction is at will make a big difference. An axis between 50 and 130 will add thickness to the outer edges of your lenses...as the axis gets closer to 180....and back around to the 40...most of the thickness would be at the top and bottom, and usually cut off by the time the lens is cut for the frame, so it doesn't show much anymore.

Other factors are the size of your frame in relation to your pupillary distance. How well centered your eyes are in the lenses affect the thickness a lot.

Besides that...your prescription isn't strong enough for 1.74...it isn't recommended until at least - 6.00

1.66/1.67...( same thing, different brands)...would be more than enough for your prescription.

So, with all the variables, not knowing all the measurements involved, it is impossible to tell you how thick they might be.
