Question:

Will my rock chip grow?

I have an EXTREMELY SMALL rock chip on my car windshield. It doesn't go through the entire sheet of glass (by this I mean that the outside of my windshield is chipped but the chip did not reach the inside of the car). Will this grow? It doesn't look like it is the kind that is going to start cracking, but I was wondering if anyone else could tell me otherwise. Also, do the repair kits you buy at auto stores for like 15 bucks work?

  1. Yes it WILL grow, you can actually call ur local glass comapany and they will fill in the rock chip for 15-20 bucks, takes that 5 mintues to do and it could save you money in the long run

  2. get it repaired now by a glass co. before it spreads, call your insurance co. if you have glass coverage and they will send a glass co. out to your house and fix it free of charge and if you don't like the repair they will replace the complete windshield for your deductible, usually $100.

  3. i doubt it. I have an old truck full of them that have been there for years

  4. it sure will hot summers and cold winters are worse for this to happen. when you turn on the ac or defroster, you have a temperature difference between the two sheets of glass this will case pressure differences with the glass expanding at a different rate.
