Question:

Will my spare tire work for a sub box?

Strange question, but let me explain. I have a Jeep Wrangler, set up as what some people call a "Rock Crawler". The back seat is removed, and a rack is welded in it's place that holds a 35" spare tire on a 15" rim horizontally. The space under it is taken up by tools and spare parts. There is absolutely no room anywhere else for a sub.

I bought a 12" Cerwin Vega sub and matching amp. It states it needs a box volume of 1 cu. ft. The sealed enclosure I have designed using the rim of the spare as a box gives a volume of 1308 cu, or 0.756 cu. ft.

I'm thinking 25% is a big deal, but I've never done this before. Any suggestions?

  1. If you are worried about it being too small you can always add polyfill.  That is just basically pillow stuffing that can be found at many local stores.

Sealed enclosures are fairly forgiving so you shouldn't have too much of a problem with an enclosure being smaller then 1 cubic foot.

    Good Luck!!!

  2. raise the box a little if not posible  0.75 is not a big problem seal box  will sound good and because the box is smaller  the speaker will hold more power

  3. So are you just going to s***w the sub right to the rim or something? Not sure where your gettin at here. If you are, I wouldnt really recommend that because air would leak out everywhere. What I would recommend is to take the tire out, and build a custom box that will fit there.
