Will my speakers blow?

will my speakers blow if they RMS at 100 watts wired at 2ohms and i power 120 watts to each? i have a pair of boss audio 3.5" speakers and don't want them to blow. if i power 120 watts to each of the speakers but not put the head unit at full sound will that be alright?

most likely no.  Those are smaller speakers, and they will not pick much abss at all, compared to 6 x 9's.  Because of that and the fact that they are powered speakers.  Of course also depends on the head unit and how much that is putting out.  If you have a system with that like a subwoofer and all, and you don't to blow them, my suggestion is to buy bass filters.  It is a small cylinder looking object that you either solder or barrel connect onto the positive wire going into the speaker (cut the wire going in as close to the speaker as possible, usually a good 12" should be good).  That will take a lot, if not all bass out of the speakers, especially those small speakers.  I got two of them for my infinity 6 x 9's and it made a huge difference.  Should be good with those small speakers though honestly.

they should not blow because its just 20watts over the rms, but make sure the amp settings are setup good and not all wacked out.

never have any amp setting on MAX and never go higher than 3/4 on the Gain/Level. this will cause the amp to give more power than it can and will give a very distorted sound.

also, the amp can go into thermal/protect, damage/blow the speakers, and blow fuses.

if you are too worried about damaging them, dont set the gain/level up too high. this will reduce the amount of watts the amp is going to be pushing.

so you could start off with having the gain a little below 1/2 and see how it sounds. if its not too loud, push it up little by little or match it to the stereos RCA volts.

Buy bass blockers or if your amp has a high pass filter on it turn that on or if your headunit has it turn it on.  speakers that small dont play lower frequencies well at all and they will blow with bass goin to them eventually
