Will my special ed classes affect what college I go to?

Question

Ok so I am in all special ed/ foundation classes. Math, science, english, spanish, and history. Also study skills. Now lets say I get all A+ on my report cards for the 4 years strait and my friend in all regular classes not foundation gets A+ 4 years strait. If we both apply to the same college would they decline my because I am in foundation and he would make it? How would my foundation look on a college application? Would it say the subject and if its foundation or not or would it just say the class? Like would the college see Algeo or algebra? Will these foundation classes really affect me from getting into colleges even if I get good grades? Does it determine the school or what?

If you and your friend are applying for the same spot in college, there's only one--more than likely your friend will be offered admission and you will be turned down.  

Having said that, there are many colleges that work specifically with LD students, check with your resource teacher or your counselor at school.  Tell them you're interested in pursuing a college education.  They can work your IEP so that you can have success at your goals.

I really don't think it will affect your chances... My brother has cerebral palsy and he is in special education classes and he does really well in them and he gets all A's...Well he is a senior in high school and this year and last he gets tons of college applications and call from colleges all wanting him to go to their school. These are normal 4 year universities, good ones at that, all wanting him to go to their school. They don't know that he is mentall and physically disabled and will never be able to go until my mom tells them..

If they don't know that he is in special ed, I doubt they will know that you take foundation classes...And if they do know, you could go to a Jr college for 2 years and then transfer. That way it would transition you and they will see that you did well, hopefully, in the Jr college and should admit you...Good luck!

Special ed students are suppose to get a regular high school diploma if they meet the requirements.

I'm not sure why, but most schools give these kids a 'certificate of attendence' instead of a real diploma.

Make sure they do not do this!

If they do, fight it!  Find the laws that state you are suppose to get a regular diploma (on www.wrightslaw.com) and print this out, mail it to the superintent. This should change their minds.

Also if they do this, tell them you want to see the law that states you can not get a regular diploma.

it  determines if try ur all during high school.  and no it don't matter if you are  a special needs person or not.

The only thing colleges and universities look at is your SAT scores.
