I wish to call my insurance provider and the number for customer services is an 0870 number however the number for new customers is a freephone 0800 number.

If I call the 0800 number and they pass me to customer services is the call still free?

  1. Yes, they will foot the bill, if they charge you ater diverting you, you can claim back the difference in your next bill

  2. If you call the 0800 number from a landline then yes it'll be free. However mobile phones usually charge a premium for any numbers beginning 08. In my opinion the whole 08 number range is a bit of a scam.

If you want to try and find a real landline number for companies that only give out 08 numbers, try www.saynoto0870.com - they have a database of the real numbers for many companies and the cost saving can be huge. For example many providers charge around 8-10p per min for 0870 which adds up if they leave you on hold.

  3. It should be,,,,,,,, but remember this is also a way they can make money. You don't really think that company's are that useless that they need to keep you on hold for as long as they do????

  4. 0800 is free if called from a land line

even if they transfer you it is free

if calling from a mobile you will most likely be charged at your chosen tariff rate

    hope this helps

  5. YES

    0800 are always free

  6. If they transfer you to the 0870 number, there may be a charge, or they might tell you to ring the other number.  However, there may be an alternative number to the one on your insurance paperwork.  There is a website where you can type in the name or number of the company you want to ring, and it will search its database to find landline and/or freefone number instead.  The website is called http://www.saynoto0870.co.uk .  Check it out and see what you think.

  7. yes if they put you through no if you call it yourself

  8. Theorectically Yes, but I would ask them on the phone before being transfered just to be sure.

  9. 0870 numbers are chargeable, 0800 are free,m even if they pass you to another department
