I currently have US tourist visa. But I plan to study in the US that's why I am now applying for F1/student visa here in my home country. If ever I will be denied an F1 visa, will the embassy consulate remove my tourist visa?

  1. As you already possess a tourist visa, the mere fact that you have taken the trouble to apply for an F1 will be seen by most consular officers as good faith on your part, as so many holders of tourist visas use them to arrive, and then apply to change status to student.

Even if your F1 is denied, your B2 is in no danger, unless of course you provide fraudulent documentation to support the F1 application.

  2. Not necessarily.  Travelers are able to hold the two visas independently, so being denied an F-1 visa does not automatically impact your existing B1/B2 visa.  However, if, in the  course of making a determination on your F-1 visa application, the Consular officer uncovers sufficient derogatory information, the B1/B2 visa can be canceled.

  3. No, they are not connected.
