Will my turtle survive....

will my RES turtle survive eating gravel because i let him swimm in my aquarium and he ate some of my gar's p**p and them some chunks of gravel a little bit smaller than his head so will he be ok or what?

  1. he should be ok, if they are small enough they will pass right on through.  just watch to make sure he is eating normally and that there is poo.  you might have to take him out of the tank to watch for the poo, but they often enjoy the dry time.  good luck  


  2. He'll probobly be okay.  Turtles have naturally tough stomachs so its cool.

  3. Generally its not a great idea to keep small gravel bits in the same tank with your turtle. Try using river rocks, or something bigger that your turtle can't keep in its mouth, or even sand. You're turtle will probably be ok, but sometimes in can get stuck in digestive tracks, etc As for eating some of the poo, that is normal, I've seen my own RES, and heard of many others eating poo and waste lying about. Best of luck with your turtle, and don't forget to switch out that gravel.

  4. It depends on the size of the gravel.  This is a common and very serious problem with turtles who are kept in tanks with gravel.  I have seen fatal impactions from this.  Other than surgery (which is very serious) you'll have to wait and see if he survives.
