Will my volleyball career ever happen? HELP!?

I love volleyball with all my heart. Only issue is I wasn't given the right tools during or after high school. My coach was.. well lets just say he was a flop =(. He didn't help me try to get recruited at all. I played club until my mother stopped supporting me (financially of course) and I missed a key opportunity to go to San Diego and possibly get recruited. I'm 19 and finishing up my sophomore year at Stony Brook University. They have a D1 team but I need a highlights tape. I'm going to try my hardest to get this done but I need help. How can I make a good highlights tape? And is there anyone out there who can help? =/

My biggest dream is to play at a top University and during that train to play beach volleyball and after that.. Olympics. Its far, but anything is possible. They say you're never alone in anything you're trying to do. So I'm reaching out hoping someone will reach back.

Any advice for a girl with high hopes and a passion?

  1. determined woman,

go for it girl! Ask one of your colsest and dear friends to video tape you while you play at a few games. Then ad pictures kinda like a slideshow and such. I think youll do great because you have the right determination, concentration, and will power. Sure we all had a coach or two who didnt give a rats *** as to how we did, but we have to push ourselves and ask questions sometimes to help ourselves succeed. I know that you will go to the olympics with your high determined heart. You can do it! (just send me a jersey when you do go there so i can cheer for you watching the tv ok?!) good luck and God bless!

  2. wait a minute.....nowadays to be a professional volleyball player is not very easy, ok!

You have to know every single thing about volleyball, a lot of passion, courage, patient, strengths and be in a very good physical situation of the body.

I'm 21 years old (girl) and I started playing volleyball 4,5 years ago

I went to the academy because I didnt had any idea how to play just a little, I went with the premise that someone its gonna see me play (those who are looking for talents and take them to a better team;)

but nothing.....now I'm playing in the women's team

I really love volleyball, but because of my studies (graphic design) I'll not be a professional player in my country.  I dont know when I will be...I'm still learning the game.  : ((((

and is a very sad for me, because here they are looking younger players with more talent and passion to play in the future, in the national team of cyprus.

So, keep doing what you doing, give all your best and wait for a luck its all about luck.....oh and dont bank on only in volleyball

But I wish you aaaaall the best!!!!!

  3. I think your hopes are a little too hopeful. You've only got two years left of school, and you're at a D1 school where it's hard to make the team in general, and close to impossible to make it when you've been out of the game for two years.

Having said that, I doubt that you need a highlight tape to play for SBU.  I believe that each school has a number of open tryouts.  Speak directly with the coach to find out when he's holding tryouts.

If he says that you MUST have a 'highlight' tape, then you'll be further delayed.  From what I know, college coaches don't want the Sportscenter cut of your best games.  Rather, they'd like to see one full game where you demonstrate your leadership on the court, and your skills in game situations.  To get this, you probably have to play in an adult league, play on a USAV club team, or head to a gym, set up a net, have a friend set you some balls, and videotape it.
