Question:

Will my water damaged camera ever work again?

My beautiful hot pink FujiFilm FinePix camera took a spill into a toilet last night. A toilet that hadn't been flushed!

I fished it out immediately (yuck, I know) and when I tried to turn it on, it flicked on then off. So I took the battery out and left it out to dry for the night.

Today the camera will turn on and let me view all my old pictures just fine, but won't let me take new pictures. When I try to take a new picture the screen is just blank and kind of scribbly looking. It flashes but the pic is blank. If I adjust any of the options (flash on/off, etc.) the printing on the display shows up just fine.

So obviously the display isn't broken - it must be the lens or something, I assume.

Do you think if I leave it out to dry a little longer it might come back? Or is it a goner? I was reading online that if an electronic falls into something other than water (like pee...) it can be more curosive and ruin it quicker.

Help!! My baby camera isn't even one year old

  1. take the battery out and leave the place where the battery goes in open.  leave it for a few days.  let it dry out, then try to use it.  if this doesnt work take it to where you bought it from and see if they can do anything.  my friend dropped her camera in a pool and it worked after a couple days of letting it dry out.

  2. Ya, you could get it repaired....but it would probably be cheaper to just buy a new one....Sorry!

  3. Maybe.  A camera repair shop could overhaul it -- but beware of the cost: it could easily be more than the thing is worth.  It may be time to spring for a digital camera, there are some that are waterproof.

  4. 2 common reason for the death of digital cameras are dropping and moisture. Unfortunately, you just short circuit your camera sensor when you turned it on while wet. If only you have let it dry completely, it would have a chance.

There's is nothing you can do but just get a new one. It would cost more than what you can get for it now. You can have it as decoration or make some sort of art with it.

  5. I'm kind of scared to think about what you were doing in the bathroom with you're camera, ;) but unfortunately you most likely destroyed it by trying to turn it on... you could look into getting it repaired, but it'd be much cheaper to get a new one because they'd probably have to replace most of the electronics.
