We did file jointly. I received a notice that seemed like I was only going to get $600. I don’t understand why not $1200 will two $600 checks come or just one $600 check?

  1. One check.

  2. Was the $2400 all income tax, or did it include something else like self employment tax or penalty on an early IRA or 401K withdrawal?  Only income tax counts.

You'll get one check.  See the calculator for the correct amount at http://www.irs.gov/app/espc/ - you'll need info from your return, so have your copy handy.

  3. It is up to 600 per person not necessarily exactly 600.

  4. If will be just one check. However, if you paid $2400, you should be getting $1200. You may want to call the IRS at 1-800-829-0582, extension 726 to inquire.

  5. you may get $600 because your tax liability was that or less.

so even if you would have filed separately you both would have gotten $300 each, the minimum.

  6. If you filed jointly you will get one. If you filed separately you will get two.

  7. For MFJ, it's one check.

Most married couples qualified for $600.  You only got more if you paid more in taxes.
