I have nail polish stains on my carpet. I'm probably going to rip out the carpet and just have the wood floors underneath. Will the stains from the nail polish be on the wood floors? Will they be big stains?

  1. Unless you've poured a few gallons of nail polish on the floor, the answer is no. The carpet is to thick to allow a fast drying liquid to penetrate it. Nail polish remover is a different story. It is fast drying (usually acetone) but very "thin" and penetrating.

When you pull the rug, you will probably find that the floors are dull or stained (cat pee is a common reason for carpet) If the floors are dull, get a price for a "screen and coat". That is a 100 grit buffing and two coats of finish. If they're trashed, sand and finish, if the cat peed on them (black stains), replace the stained boards, then sand and finish.
