  1. Officially, Nepal do not accept foreign currency including Indian rupees. However, you can change Indian currency to Nepalese currency at the airport or entry point. There are banks or currency changing offices. The conversion rate is 1IRs = NRs1.6. If you are Indian, you do not need visa to enter Nepal. You just need an official identity document (passport, citizenship, etc) to enter Nepal either from road or air. Please note that you can travel up to the Nepalese boarder by Indian rail and there is no rail network within Nepal.

  2. Generally indian rupees are acceptable throughout Nepal. But it is better to change them at the entry point and remain safe.

Even safer is to get an ATM-card, preferably VISA, which can be used all over in India and Nepal. Nepal Investment Bank (in Nepal) and Punjab National Bank issue such cards. I think other banks must also have started that service.

NO visa required, but get your passport or government ID with you.
