Question:

Will new handgrips cut down on numbness?

I drive a stock 2006 Honda Nighthawk. My palms get a little numb after a few minutes.

I've been riding for only a few months, so maybe I'm gripping too tight. Thanks for your help.

  1. Try relaxing your hands.

You may be in a bad riding position for your body type you may need to try new handle bars

I don't thing the grips will change thing to much

  2. Probably you are gripping tight. Gel gloves will help slightly. BMW has an excellent grip on it's RT model. These actually fit a persons hand and are designed to flow air under the fingers for cooling.  The ribbed design is anti vibe as well. TRY to imitate these in your purchase.

  3. yes, you're gripping too tight

    you're not relaxed when riding

try to daydream that Pamela Anderson is riding on the back and she's holding around your waist really tight and she is yelling at you to go faster!

  4. Try relaxing your hands, and moving them. Maybe the angle you are holding the wheel. (bending your wrists the wrong way)

  5. Either that or its vibration that's causing your problem.  Get a BAR-SNAKE to reduce the felt vibration through the handlebars.  Also, you can try larger diameter spongy grips.

  6. Bike grips are like pillows - everyone has a favorite.

Before trying new grips though, you should check the handlebar angle, the width of the handle bars, and check to make sure you aren't over extending your arms.

You should also be relaxed when holding the handle bar - if you are hanging on real tight, it will make your hands hurt (and eventually start cramping).

If all that fails, go to a bike dealer and make sure you try the different grips when they are mounted on a handle bar before buying. It can make a difference.

  7. grips might help...

like you suggested though, try relaxing a bit...

  8. try fingerless leather gloves
