Will not discriminate between drivers - Red Bull boss
Red Bull has brushed aside the recent criticism which came its way following the disastrous Korean Grand Prix and repudiated the call of maintaining inequality amongst its drivers. Red Bull Racing's boss, Christian Horner has openly averred the position
of his team by categorically stating that his team will not make an exclusive all-out effort for Mark Webber’s bid for the upcoming races.
This means that Red Bull will be equally supporting both of its drivers despite the fact that the Australian Webber enjoys superior position in comparison to his team-mate Sebastian Vettel. Webber is on the second spot in the drivers' standings just behind
Fernando Alonso, who enjoys 11 points lead over the Australian. On the other hand, Vettel is 25 points behind Alonso.
Despite this, Horner insists equality among the drivers as teams prepare for the last 2 races of the season. Talking to reporters, Horner said, “We have two fantastic drivers and we will continue to support both equally in line with Red Bull's credible sporting
ethos. As we saw in Korea, it is impossible to predict what will happen. For example, with 10 laps to go Sebastian had moved into the lead of the championship, with Alonso then moving into the lead following our bad luck.”
According to Horner, the situation can rapidly change in Formula 1. With new scoring system, it is difficult to predict the results. However, Horner is optimistic that one of his drivers will seal the championship this season.
Vettel is also refusing to give up as he prepares for the upcoming Brazil Grand Prix. Nevertheless, the German Vettel looks realistic and believes that his chances are slim in comparison to his team-mate. Vettel stated, “My chances? They are how they are,
but as long as I have a tiny chance. We have two races to go and we saw in Korea how quickly things can change. Let's wait to see what Abu Dhabi brings.”
Meanwhile, defending champion Jenson Button still believes that he can wrap up the title race despite being on the fifth place. Currently, Button has the deficit of a staggering 42 points from the Spaniard but it is still mathematically possible for the
McLaren driver to win his second F1 Championship. Button had ended the Korean Grand Prix in disappointing fashion as he finished on 12th spot after sustaining severe handling problems during the rain-marred race.
Nonetheless, Button refuses to give up. He maintained, “I've always said that I will fight until it's mathematically impossible. Sure, looking at it written down on paper, you've got to admit it's a long-shot, but I'd regret it for the rest of my life if
I chose not to go for it, and then circumstances transpired to give me a full run at the title.”
Button could only possibly win the title if he wins in Brazil with none of the other title contenders finishing the race. The probability of this happening is quite low but then nothing is impossible in F1. Jenson admitted that McLaren has failed to perform
on consistent basis but he is hopeful that his car is capable of competing with the Red Bull and the Ferrari in the remaining races.
Jenson said, “Our performance has been a little bit up and down recently. We nearly had the pace to win in Monza; we looked faster than the Red Bulls in Singapore, and our race pace was very good at Suzuka. So, it's difficult to say precisely where we are.
In Korea, we looked extremely quick during all the practice sessions.” He also revealed that McLaren would be coming into Brazil equipped with a number of new upgrades. He believes that these upgrades would provide his car competitive advantage over the other
teams. “For Brazil, we're bringing more updates to the car”, he said. “That's something that's always impressed me about this team.”
