After taking about twenty pics with a new Optio S50 camera, the lens would not extend and the camera would immediately power off so it is not usable. This is not a battery problem. I am just starting a one year warranty. I have read many reviews with the same complaint mentioned.I talked to the Pentax tech and he hinted that it was a known defect. However, when I followed the instructions and returned it to Pentax for repair, I was told that a high repair cost would be made (over $152) to repair the misaligned lens shutter casing and do related calibrations. Previously,I could see that the lens cover had shifted slightly as if it were loose so I felt that this was why the lens cover would not open. The pics were easy to take in the beginning but now I can't use the camera because the cost to repair is about what I paid for it. This camera was treated carefully and was never dropped. There are no scratches or dents. I will never buy a Pentax again. The other complaints said that Pentax Service Dept would not honor their warranty either and said the camera must have been dropped or gotten wet.Cheap construction which fails and no real warranty provided. It is not worth asking for the camera to be returned to me.
