I don't care what type. Cold-fusion, hydrogen, micro-reactors whatever. Is there any possibility of these working in the future.

  1. That was the dream years ago. We promoted the idea around the world as a safe and endless means of energy. That was the start of nuclear proliferation.

  2. a Battery for a car.. certainly they are working on em now.. a Nuclear battery... NO portable nuclear power doesn't work well...

  3. I hope not.  If anyone could buy a nuclear battery, then any idiot could grind one up and throw the radioactive dust into the city streets screaming 'Allah akbar!  Death to the infidels!  Cancer!  Cancer!'

  4. It's good at it seems but if nuclear batteries will come it will be too expensive. Remember uranium is the source of nuclear power and uranium is very limited so not all people cannot afford or to use it because of it's limited supply.

  5. Depends what type of vehicles. There actually are some marine ships which are already powered by nuclear power and do not need to stop for up to 20 years. For smaller vehicles like cars, there is not enough room. If you examine the process of nuclear fission, it requires a cooling room or whatever it is to make sure that the energy does not go out of control. In order to have nuclear fission, it would take up your entire engine space. On the other hand, if you did have it, you would not have a trunk. The engine would be in the front and the nuclear "plant" would be in the back. The reason why it can't be in the front: if it were to crash into something, the protective casing would not be as strong. It could then cause a reaction as big as a nuclear bomb. This safety hazard is probably why it is discouraged in the first place tho.

  6. God, I hope not.

  7. the current physics knowledge does not support such small scale uses....if someone figures out a way to due build one....there would be some shifting of current theory (if not a large change)

it's one of the reasons suit case nuclear bombs (or even smaller devices) do not exist.

  8. What do you think powered the Lunar Rover? And any number of satellites?

  9. Wouldn't that be the ideal solution!  Never having to recharge your car as long as you live.

This would be a great idea except for those who rather live in the dark ages because new and modern technology scares them.  These people are the same people who protested the Wright Brothers saying "If God wanted man to fly,......"

  10. Add one nuclear battery to a cup of gasoline and a small explosive charge, stand back and toss a match on it ... and you will understand why this idea will not work twice. Oh, and run like crazy after tossing the match. Better yet, talk one of those suicide bombers into tossing the match ... for the cause ... whatever that is.

  11. It was envisioned long ago

  12. Just for yuks:

"The Big Bus" (disaster movie parody)

  13. I doubt it.  The only civilian products to ever use atomic batteries were pacemakers.  I don't think any countries nuclear agency is going to be letting people have that much plutonium in their possession.
