Question:

Will oleanders grow in part shade and under oak trees?

I live on a dirt road and would like to plant oleander bushes to block some of the dirt. Also have lots of deer and need something they don't eat.

  1. Yes. When I was on the farm my line of oleandas were under some large gum trees. They got a few hours of sun but were in shade for most of the day. They survived very well.


  2. They sure will as long as there getting good full on sun for at least half the day. For a good block I would stick to a hardy variety and not a dwarf, you'll get the height you need and the hardies are more freeze tolerant if that's an issue where you're at.
