Okay. Yesterday afternoon my family and I saw a stray kitten in after calling the shelter to come pick her up. Once inside, it seemed like she had some sort of breathing problem. My mother said she was just purring, but it seemed much more to that to me. Later on, we started feeding her. He belly became somewhat bloated. Now, I've done some reading which said this can occur when animals have worms or when they eat too fast. Also, the kitten did not use the bathroom while she was here. She mostly just laid on my bed. Now, about my dog. I have a very tiny dog and she seemed very curious about the kitten. I kept them about to be on the safe side. When the kitten left, I changed the quilt the kitten was laying on and my sisters and I repeatedly washed our hands. Is there anything I should worry about?

  1. Apart from fleas and ringworm, no. I am not saying you will get these, but it is possible, so do put some anti-flea protection on your dog if he is not up to date with that, and if you see his skin getting bald and reddish patches (or your skin) in a couple of weeks, don't panic, it may be ringworm, it is easy to treat.

  2. Keep doing what you are doing and it should be fine as you said this is only a temporary thing until the shelter people come, let them know about the symptoms the cat is showing but some shelters may opt to have it put to sleep, so check if the people collecting the cat are from a no kill shelter. The cat can probably get simple treatment to make it healthy again, it deserves a chance.

  3. No i really doubt it. The kitten was probably just so hungry that it ate all the food so fast and gave itself indigestion or something. it was nice of you to feed the cat though =)

  4. No. Sounds like you took proper precautions.
