I am a graphic design student, but I've decided to get a 2 BA degrees one in graphic design the other in art history. Is this going to effect my getting a job with a graphic design firm?

  1. The degrees will help you get into the interview as previously mentioned. But what most art directors and creative directors are seeking is what is in your book.

They want to see your talent, how you use your tools, how you think, how you work with others, how you work under pressure and meet deadlines, what you contribute to a project, your scope of expression (are you versatile or flavor of the month?), etc.

FYI: I personally don't care about degrees or awards or other documents. I seek out talent first, education and tools second.

  2. Once either degree is in your hand, what will be the biggest factors in getting a position will be the KINDS of classes you took, and your portfilio.  If these two factors match what the employer need, then you would be a good fit for the job.

The degree gets you the interview.  Your portfolio and knowlege, along with the interview can get you the job.
