I think it sounds like steamed potatoes and would be pretty bad. If you do as they suggest and pan fry to get them brown and crispy - now you're talking. Do it in oil (olive oil if you like it, vegetable oil if you don't want to add more flavor) with salt and pepper.

And why would you wash potatoes after you slice them??

Potatoes are always a good side dish, but they did call these spiced potatoes, not very spicy to me, try some butter with chives and of course sour cream with it. How about some ginger with your butter?

If it is spiced, I would add more spice like cayanne or red pepper  flakes
