  1. yes. it will probably take a while though. my grandmother has an african grey that likes to pull it's feathers out and they always come back and he always plucks them out again. but they always come back again. hope your finch is alright.

i highly doubt the bird was in shock from having it's feathers trimmed. i have never experienced this. it may be a complete coincidence that these two things happened at once. just make sure you don't trim too close to the wing tissue.

  2. Why did you want your Pintails wings cut??????

They will grow back when it is due to molt which could be weeks or months.

But never ever have them cut again your bird could have died with the shock of handling and losing it's ability to fly.

These delightful little birds do-not need their wings clipped and I don't think much of the vet for doing this.

  3. Yes, they will grow back.

Sounds like you have a male. I assume that the vet did the wing clip as this must be a hand fed or tamed bird that sits on your shoulder or fingers. He must be out of the cage a lot. Such a lucky fellow. :o)

The long tail feathers will fall out when the breeding season is finished for him. But the good news is that under those long tail feathers he has a short tail [this shorter tail helps hold up the long breeding plumage tail feathers]. He will have his short tail until the breeding season comes around again. Then he will sport his short tail, as well as those wonderfully long breeding plumage tail feathers!

I use to have 2 male Pintail Whydah over the years as pets and now have a male Paradise Whydah as a pet in a 6' long x 3' high x 2 feet deep flight with other finches and a South American Red-capped Cardinal. :o)

We used to breed finches years ago when we first started in Aviculture. But now breed several species of parrots and parakeets and have finches, doves, softbills, etc. as pets. :o)

    Hope this helps.
