Will placing an iPod speaker system on a glass table cause the table to shatter from the vibrations?

It matters how loud you have it set, but you shouldn't have to worry about it, if it's loud enough to produce enough vibration (decibels), you should worry more about going deaf than the glass shattering, not even professional speakers are loud enough to shatter glass (the ones used during concerts) and those are enough the make you deaf

    So in short, it is possible, but it would have to be extremely loud

I wouldn't worry about it at all.  The two most important factors in shattering glass with sound are volume and frequency.  All things have a natural frequency, that is they all vibrate at a certain rate.  In order for sound to shatter glass, not only does the music have to be loud, but it must also match the vibration of the glass exactly and for a long period of time.  So unless the music you listen to only has one note, that matches the frequency of the table, for the entire length of the song, then I wouldn't worry.  Also, table glass is not the easiest thing to shatter.  The best type of glass would be a crystal glass, such as a wine glass.  So turn up the jams and don't worry.
