Will plantar warts go away on their own?

This is my first wart. I'm fine with just leaving it, it hurts way to much when i cut the dead skin and apply the over-the-counter wart medicine. I'm not in a hurry to remove it and before I started cutting the skin and applying medicine, it was barely noticeable it was just a tiny circle and I didn't even notice it. But now that I started treating it, it hurts way to much and it's really annoying. Should I continue? Or should I wait for it to fall on its own (I know it takes many, many months)? And please answer this: if I leave it alone, do I still have to cover it with band-aids and wear socks all the time??? Before I noticed that it was a wart I thought it was just a tiny corn, I never wore socks and I walked barefoot all around the house...
