Edward VIII of the United kingdom had to abdicate because he married Wallis Simpson, a divorced woman, and Charles of Wales has married Camilla Parker-Bowles, which is divorced.

  1. CFVH Rachelle said and I quote....The Prince Charles of Wales is heir and first in line in the British Order of Succession, followed by his two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, who are second and third in line, respectively.   she didnt say Charles was his son... And really The are just figure heads now... so what does it all matter...

  2. These silly titles only means something if you live in some commonwealth countries, there's only one superior intellect or person & thats Jesus. As a republican ( in the British term of the word and not the American) I would rather see the end to the monarchy when the present Queen Elizabeth the second passes away.

The Monarchy symbolizes the class system, which has a cruel history and is still evidently present in some quarters of British society.

I cannot except how a family by accident of birth can be placed above the average British citizen, especially as they are a bunch of interloping Germans and Greeks without a drop of Celtic blood in their veins unlike most of their true British subjects.

It is about time Britain shrugs off its medieval past and enters finally a future of equality and modernism.

Personally ,Royalty is the outdated remnant of feudal privilege and only serves to perpetuate the obnoxious class system and snobbery.

I'd rather England become a republic and the descendants of what is unarguably an imported German dynasty asked nicely to vacate the throne and switch off the lights before returning home.

By the way unless William is g*y he wont have a Beau he'll hopefully have a Belle.

  3. Charles has not lost his place in the line of succession:times have changed and divorce is now common. And,to clarify things,Wallis Simpson was a TWO-TIME divorcee;many doubted that she would stay with the King because of her history of changing husbands.

    William is Charles' heir.

The current line of succession is:

    1.   The Prince of Wales

    2.   Prince William of Wales

    3.   Prince Henry of Wales

    4.   The Duke of York

    5.   Princess Beatrice of York

    6.   Princess Eugenie of York

    7.   The Earl of Wessex

    8.   Viscount Severn

    9.   The Lady Louise Windsor

    19. The Duke of Gloucester

  4. Charles will be the next king, unless he abdicates in favor of William.

  5. Well, if Charles is still alive when Elizabeth II passes on, then he will become king.  When he passes on, William (assuming HE survives his father) will be the following king.

No stipulation has been made regarding Charles' marriage to Camilla, and that will have NO BEARING WHATSOEVER on whether he ascends the throne.  That has been decided, already.

  6. Rachelle, I didn't know that the Prince of Wales had a son named Charles. If you fancy yourself to be an "expert" on royalty, at least get the facts and styling of British princes right and while you're at it stop copying and pasting.

Meaussie, there is no such person as Prince Charles of Wales. He is Charles, Prince of Wales. Rachelle fancies herself to be an expert but doesn't even know how to correctly style members of the British Royal Family. That format is for a child of the Prince of Wales.

  7. prince charles is next in line but i dont think camilla will be queen

  8. The Prince Charles of Wales is heir and first in line in the British Order of Succession, followed by his two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, who are second and third in line, respectively. Up until 2002, the Church of England did not permit the re-marriage of divorced people with living ex-spouses. However, that law was uplifted since then, therefore, Prince Charles could legally marry Camilla, and retain his place in line.

Actually, legally Edward VIII could have married Mrs. Simpson and remained king, his various prime ministers opposed the marriage, arguing that the people would never accept her as queen. Edward knew that the ministry of British Prime Minister would resign if the marriage went ahead. This could have dragged the King into a general election thus ruining irreparably his status as a politically neutral constitutional monarch.

However, although Prince Charles and Camilla had a "civil wedding ceremony, the marriage remained elusive, with two main issues requiring resolution and acceptance. As future Supreme Governor of the Church of England, the prospect of his marrying Camilla, with whom he had had a relationship while both were married, was seen as controversial by some. Both the Prince and Camilla had divorced their spouses, but as her former husband was still alive (although re-married to his long-time mistress), her remarriage was likely to be problematic. Over time, opinion — both public and within the Church — shifted somewhat to a point where a civil marriage would be acceptable.
