Question:

Will pubic hair irritate enough to cause a genital herpes outbreak??

My husband and I have very sensitive skin. He got outbreaks after I had shaved because the stubble coming out irritated his skin causing an outbreak.

I have had two outbreaks back to back and I have not shaved, but I want to know if the pubic hair might be irritating my skin and causing outbreaks because I have no other explanation for getting so many genital outbreaks so close together.

Thank you for your help.

  1. YOU SAID YOUR HUSBAND GOT AN OUTBREAK BECAUSE YOU SHAVED AND THE HAIR WAS COMING BACK IN, BUT THEN YOU GO ON TO SAY YOU HAD 2 OUTBREAKS BUT YOU DIDN'T SHAVE WHICH MAKES NO SENSE/ BUT ANY HOW SHAVING AND THE HAIR GROWING BACK IN HAS A LOT TO DO WITH OUTBREAKS. WHEN ONE SHAVES THE PUBIC AREA YOU CAN ACTUALLY CUT THE HERPES LESIONS WHICH YOU MAY NOT EVEN SEE CAUSING YOUR LESIONS TO NOW BE OPEN ALTHOUGH YOU MAY NOT SEE THEM. WITH THE LESIONS BEING OPENED THE VIRUS IS VERY ACTIVE, AND YOU ARE NOW CAUSING YOUR HUSBAND TO HAVE AN OUTBREAK BECAUSE OF THIS. AS FOR YOU THE STUBBLE CAN CAUSE YOU TO HAVE AND OUTBREAK AND IT CA ALSO CAUSE THE OUTBREAK TO TAKE A LONGER TIME TO HEAL. THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO TRIM THE HAIR. I LEARNED THIS FROM A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE OF SHAVING AND NOT KNOWING I HAD HSV-2. SHAVING WITH HSV-2 CAN CAUSE MAJOR PROBLEMS

  2. Typically outbreaks are stress related. If shaving had anything to do with it, it would have been only indirectly associated. Be sure not to shave if you have an outbreak.
