Question:

Will public intoxication show up on my FBI Background Check?

I am applying to become a teacher and i am nervously awaiting my FBI finger printing to come back.

About 3 years ago i got a Public Intoxication charge in college in VA.

I now live in PA.

I am hoping this information becomes archived or isn't checked for between states.

And if it does not show up, am i at liberty to tell anyone about it?

It was a $50 fine...so I plead guilty to avoid court... now i am regretting it!

All my research has lead me to different answers - Please Help!

  1. Just tell them you got drunk as a skunk one time and promise not to do it anymore...

  2. Our company conducts FBI fingerprinting and it really depends on the jurisdiction as to whether the case will be discovered.  I will start by stating that I highly doubt it will be found.  The FBI system is no different than a state system, in that it relies on every police department and county/city court to deliver their records.  Generally, if you were not fingerprinted the police department is unlikely to submit those records to the state, and therefore they would not be submitted to the FBI AFIS (Automate Fingerprint Identification System).

  3. Criminal backround checks are very in dept  when it comes to teachers, Now a Days they do not mess around. However, I do not think this will harm your application status.  It's a misdemeanor you took care of it and it was 3 years ago, and well if that is the only thing on your record then you have nothing to worry about.

  4. It all depends on the municipality and how they handle their records. However, a $50 fine is highly unlikely to show up on your FBI background check unless you were arrested. If you were arrested, that will show up.

You should be honest with the school about this. It may be something they are willing to overlook if you are honest about it. However, when you hide something and then people find out, you have proven yourself to be untrustworthy and deceptive. THAT could really cost you the job.
