Will pure acetone increase your cars fuel efficiency?

I heard that adding pure acetone to your cars gas tank can increase your mpg. Is this true?

I got sucked into that one for a couple of months till I noticed my average gas mileage hadn't changed or dropped by three miles per gallon.

I checked it using the ScanGauge II (another farce) and written mileage logs.

I used 1.5 to 2 ounces per ten gallons.

No thats wrong the oil companies has already spent millions of dollars trying to squeeze more energy out of petroleum in the form of gasoline.  What sucks is that we only get about 40% energy output out of gasoline.  We get much more energy out of diesel than regular gasoline.  If you really wanna get more MPG then drive slower.  Either that get a turbo diesel car.  Probably easier to get a brand new diesel car, then wait in line at the car dealership to get a hybrid.  Diesel cars get like 50 mpg anyways.  Go google up on some diesel cars that our out.

I doubt it. The idea is that acetone has got oxygen in the molecule and that this will help the gasoline to burn more efficiently in the engine. But you'd have to add a lot to have any effect, acetone is going to be more expensive than gasoline. It might make your motor go faster but there is a greater chance of damaging your engine or causing an explosion... so I'd steer clear of it...

Depending on the mix of the fuel at the gas station it could. But you don't know what that mix is and you would have to retest weekly samples of the fuel mixture as the mixture the gas station receives is vastly different in different seasons and weather. Do you have a lab setup to test miles per gallons? So sometimes it could and sometimes it would decrease your mileage.

It is best just to leave it alone.
