Question:

Will putting clothes infested with ants in the dryer kill them?

I woke up this morning and ants were on my bed and stuff. So I put that in the wash and dryer. Later today I found my closet infested with these same ants, even tho they weren't there in the morning. Now I'm having great trouble getting rid of these ants as I do not want to spray my clothes directly.

I noticed the ants were still alive in the washing machine when I just looked. But will the heat in the dryer kill them? as I do not want to be wasting my time more than anything else putting all my clothes in the wash unless I sprayed them, cause these clothes are all clean.

  1. The heat should bake em', but then you will have to shake them out and re-wash. You don't want their remains touching your skin you will itch like crazy. Surprised no one answered you.

  2. Get the vacuum and vacuum up as many as you can.  Load your clothing into large trash bags, so you don't drop ants all the way through the house.

Go to the laundry-mat, and dump the bags directly into the big dryers and run it for 20 minutes or more.  (This will kill lice, too).

When you get home, vacuum the closet and room again -- use the hose to get shoes, bags, purses, everything.

Once you have gotten all the ones you can see, use a household cleaner to wipe down the hard surfaces - baseboards, floors, etc.  You will wipe away the scent trail they use to find their way back home to the nest and confuse them.

It takes a lot to drown ants, so washing them just delays the process.
