Will "faded" tooth enamel replenish itself? Or is it gone forever?

I've been using a lot of tooth whitening products and I've noticed that my teeth are white but are much duller, most likely because the enamel is damaged. Will the brightness of smile come back with time?

  1. You cant regrow the enamel that you've lost, but you can make what you have left stronger with a good fluoride toothpaste. Have a look on the back of the toothpaste and if it says 1500ppm fluoride or higher then thats a good amount. Stay away from the whitening toothpastes from now on, and when you brush your teeth spit it out but dont rinse afterwards, so more fluoride stays on the teeth.

  2. Maybe, sometimes this can just be demineralization which is basically weak enamel that is trying to form a cavity but hasn't yet. Fluoride rinses can help remineralize the enamel. You just buy a fluoride rinse at the store, swish, spit, do not rinse/drink/eat for at least 30 minutes. You can do this twice a day to help, but if you have actually brushed away your enamel from brushing too hard or using a toothpaste that is too abrasive. It is best to pick a toothpaste that has the ADA seal of approval to be sure it won't be too abrasive.
