Will retired americans get a fair cost living increase on social security,rail road pensions etc!?

I am retired from the rail road and our raise last year was just over 2%.....inflation is up at least 12 %......ole g w bush gave me a raise about 4 yrs ago and RAISED what we pay for medicare--- and my check ..WENT DOWN 10.00 a month.....he is greasy and sick.....It seems that we worked all of our life,s and now live in poverty!!!...help the seniors!.....your day is coming!

No one else is counting on a raise.  If I were retired I wouldn't count on it either.  My employer has seen revenues fall and has drastically cut budgets in every way.  My union isn't even trying for a cost-of-living raise because the money isn't there.  Instead, we will focus on some of the intangibles.   RR pensions are a pretty fair deal, but social security was never designed to be a retirement pension.  It was designed to supplement people's own retirement plans but anyone who ignored all the literature for the past 70 years or so and planned to retire strictly on social security is also living in poverty.

no, unfortunately. see there are 2 worlds, the real one which we live in where we must try to maintain, even if it means doing more for less, and the politicians world(Dem's and republicans) where they don't worry because they get fat pensions, free health care and speaking jobs when they leave. by the way i work for the NYC mta and our raise was 3.5 percent and increases in our health care premiums ate that up

THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION IS SORT OF AMBIGIOUS . YES , I THINK THESE COSTS WILL GET A RAISE , THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT WHATEVER THE GET WII BE EATEN UP IMMEDIATELY WITH THE COST OF GASOLINE , GROCERIES , CAR PRICES , AND MANY OTHER THINGS WILL DEFINITELY GO UP TOO .

dlk, where did the obama comment come from? get off your high horse. anyway, in all honesty, if i were living on social security, knowing how much the money needed for citizens is tied up, i would look at an alternative source of money. my mom is retired and just to keep gas money, she works at an amusement park 2 or 3 days a week.
