Will rickshaws make a comeback?

If rickshaws come back, jobs are created, dependency on oil goes down (except for axel grease!), exercise for the workers, and pollution goes down. Of course, there is a longer commute time.

I'm not a politician, but I am a thinker.

  1. No but electric trains will.

  2. Hehe I actually got a ride a couple years ago in New York from a hipster rickshaw company called I think Double Dragon.  I don't know if they're still in business.  (For some reason I found the flyer in my room this weekend!)  It was actually faster being run around the city by some dude in running shorts than it would've been in a car.  More fun, too. A little creepy though.

  3. Actually, rickshaws are making a comeback in the US, albeit a small one.

The high price of gasoline and the antiquated restrictions that prevent fuel efficient cars from being sold in the US are creating a market for rickshaws all over the US.  There is now a rickshaw business that competes with the horse and buggy tourist rides in downtown Indianapolis.  While this venture is not doing very well due to the attempt to compete with the "tourist" industry, there is talk about expanding it to the mega-malls in the area so that people will be able to park and ride to the front door instead of driving around the mall for 45 minutes looking for that "close to the door" parking spot.

    Good thinking, by the way.
