Question:

Will running a mile 3-4 times a week build more muscle in my legs instead of slimming them down?

I want to slim down my legs, so I run a mile 3-4 times a week. I know I will gain muscle, but do you think I will gain more muscle than the weight I lose, therefore making them look bigger?

P.S- I want to fit in my pants better so I dont want my legs to get bulky

  1. ..

Running a mile 3-4 times a week will likely tone your legs up a bit, but you won't gain significant muscle, or muscle size, doing that amount.

For your legs to slim down, you've got to be working out a bit more than that - perhaps you already are!  Your legs will slim down, as the rest of your body slims down, because you:

-do cardio workouts (running, biking, swimming) 30-60 minutes a day, and

-eat fewer calories than you burn while working out and doing your daily activities.

Keep in mind that our bodies resist spot-reduction.  You can tone up one area; you can build muscle size in one area; but you have to lose weight across your whole body so you can see weight loss - slimming down - in one area of your body.

  2. walking will help you slim down running will keep building muscle

  3. You are going to loose weight but you will not bulk up however you will see improved definition in your leg mussles, especially your calves and that is a good thing.

  4. It will slim them down. When I started jogging I noticed that my legs looked longer and leaner the more I jogged. You don't get bulk from this type of exercise.

  5. no, running will slim down your legs. if you want to gain muscle you should do different excersizes. squats, or stairs running, or running sprints instead of long distances.

if you have a gym membership. the rowing machine is really good for muscular legs.
