Question:

Will running improve the strength of my kicks? I take a Tae-kwon-do Class.

Usually Im quite good at kicking, and sparring but recently I've noticed that my kicks are slower, less accurate, and are lacking strength. I don't have the time to train at a gym, so i'm planning to wake up extra early and run around the block. Also I'm planning to do later night runs---if i the energy left.

I realize that running is very healthy for many parts of the body, but will it make me a better sparring fighter in tae-kwon-do? (Martial Arts)

  1. If you run uphill or up stairs, yes.  It will also help with your flexibility in your hips and hamstrings.  Just make sure to stretch your quads and hams afterwards.

  2. heheh, I do capoeira, so I know what you mean.  Running will build a certain amount of base strength, and a lot of endurance, but after a certain amount of time you will stop being sore from running, then you might wanna try squats/deadlift/leg press and stretch consistently man!

Also try hill runs and interval training if you really want faster, stronger, kicks
