I'm 14 and I just want to lose weight on my thighs, butt, and stomach. I really DO NOT want my legs to become super muscular and big.

1) Running up and down my stairs makes me tired faster, but will it make my legs big and muscular?

2) Would it be better to just run around my house and not on stairs?

  1. Running is more of an excercise for your cardiovascular system(ur heart and stuff), but it does burn calories and would therefore lose excess weight. Sit-ups if you do like freakish amounts so that you wanna scream. do them really fast. just keep puching yourself freakishly far and your stomache will be totally flat very soon. Everyone has fat on their upper thighs that is trust me, too exhausting to rid yourself of. You gotta do squats. that's the only way. You won't get anywhere fast. But really, sit-ups will burn fat extremely well. better than anything. forget about your thighs. They're hopeless from a realistic standpoint.

  2. yeah you'll build muscle for sure. i'm in cross country and my coach makes us run the bleachers. and do step ups on the brick walls. you'll definatley get muscle.

  3. i have EXACTLY the same problem and ive been doing the same thing- running up and down the stairs! its been a week now.

i just wanted to add one thing that u will want to know:

the more muscles you have the more calories you will loose thats because when theres more muscles they will need more energy- so a little muscle is a good thing. butdont worry- you will not get fatter if you train even if you gain some muscles cause you will burn more fat, just dont forget to drink a lot of water cause you will be sweating! drinking 3 liters of water a day also helps supressing hunger and cleans your body helping you loose fat and weight.

  4. always stretch your muscles when you have exercised it makes them nice and long, they wont become bulky. stairs will strenghten your legs and as for stomach exercises slow controlled movements in sit ups is far more effective in flattening your stomach and it will protect your back

  5. In order to lose weight and not gain big muscles you have to use aerobic excersise, not anaerobic, which includes sprints, stair running, and any short burst of energy.

Aerobic- physical activity lasts long enough that the body needs to put oxygen to that part of the body

Anaerobic- requires no oxygen, so your muscles swell and get larger with the other things that isn't oxygen over time.

Notice a speed-skaters legs and a sprinters legs over a marathon runners legs. Both muscular, but the marathon runner will have sinewy, long muscles that take in oxygen, while hte sprinters muscles are short and large to give the person the best optimal speed.

i suggest doing aerobic excercises like hiking and long walks or slow jogs/runs to lose weight. Sprinting around your house will not burn sufficient calories to lose weight and will not give you speed-skater legs, but stair stepping may give you larger muscluar legs but only after a long time.

  6. It will make your quadruceps stronger (the tops of your thighs), but it's also bad for your knees.

  7. Don't do hill or stair workouts more than twice a week. I only do one. They are a great workout, but you can end up getting an injury if you do too much.
