Question:

Will simply heating table salt cause a similar effect to Himalayan salt lamps?

Does the salt need to be in crystal chunks to work or will the tiny table salt sized crystals work? Does using iodized or non-iodized salt make a difference? What about sea salt compared to whatever type your average grocery store salt is?

  1. I wouldn't think so.

The Himalayan salt lamps are uniodized for one, and they still have all of the beneficial minerals intact.  I would also think you would need a lot of salt to even begin to equal one of those things as they can get pretty large.

As far as sea salt vs. "grocery store salt" there is a world of difference.  GSS is going to be dead salt as it has all of the beneficial minerals removed.  They also bleach it chemically and usually add anticaking agents to it.  Sea salt is going to be minimally processed and be much better for you.

If you want a cheaper alternative to the salt lamps, try burning 100% beeswax candles.  They also produce negative ions when burning and are a little cheaper.  They burn cleanly without much soot, and everyone loves candles!

  2. I don't know what a Himalayan salt lamp is, but heating salt, iodized or not, will only give you hot salt.

You'd have to exceed 800 C before it melts.

  3. Sea salt is metabolized by the body differently than salt mined from the earth.

Sea salt is superior for the body.

    Liver Cleanse recipe:

Mix 1/4 teaspoon Sea Salt with one whole organic lemon squeezed into 10 ouz glass of filtered water.

    Chug on an empty stomach.

    Have a great day.
