Question:

Will snakes p**p in their hiding spots?

It intrigues me, because my mom said that my first and only corn snake would not poo in it's hiding spot mainly due to a few facts, i.e. A dog would try it's best to not “go” where it sleeps... So, would my corn snake, specifically, defecate in it’s hiding spots? If so, should I just check when I feed him every week? Obviously I could do it when he's up and about at night, but he's not tame yet, so I don't want to mess with him too much until I've feed him at least three times.

Thanks in advance.

  1. My corns have never pooped in their hide spots. 99% of the time my poo somewhere around the edge of their tanks other times they have done their business in random spots, but never in the hides. You should check the hides a day or so after he eats because they might regurgitate inside the hide.

    Good Luck!

  2. Hon, I don't know--I have looked in "General Snake Information' and have found nothing indicating whether or not snakes will 'p**p' (how cute) in their hiding places--Look on the Web for owners who run Snake Farms--

  3. some snakes will...my ball pythons do.  my kingsnakes don't though.

  4. i am not so sure about corn snakes but one of my ball pythons have done it. just check everytime you take him out to feed him, just in case.

  5. All i know, is that sometime last year i asked a related question here. I found p**p in a shed i have, p**p was on a couch in the shed , and it was way too big to be a mouse. I didn't know what else could get in there cause it's a tightly sealed building of sorts. I described said p**p as about a half-inch long and white at one end. One answer i got back surprised me. The guy said it was a snake in my shed - He said the white color at the end was urine , and that snakes will urinate like that.  To YOUR question , IF it was a snake, ...it WAS hiding in my shed, so that would...be a hiding place , no?

  6. Oh, he's new.  As far as new corn snakes go, I would be absolutely shocked if he went in his hiding place.  That is the only place right now where the snake feels secure.  He'll chill there, he'll sleep there, he won't p**p there.  You're doing the right thing.  Let him get adjusted to his new home you and his feeding regiment.  Good luck with your new pet.

  7. Mine has never gone in his hide, he usually does on the edges of the tank or around the water bowl.

  8. i have three boas and i can tell you that they never pooped in their hiding spots

when you take the snake out for feeding you should go ahead and clean out his habitat

  9. The only time I've ever seen this happen is when the cage is dirty and they have no where else to go.

  10. I'm surprised to read all this about messy balls.  I've owned them for years, and never had one mess a hide.  It's usually the furthest corner of the tank from their hide; beside the water bowl, or in the water bowl.

My corns are almost 'area trained.'  They have never defecated in their water, but they void on either side of the bowl (front and back of tank).

Just wait 2-3 days after a feed - and you'll find out soon enough.  There's always an exception to every rule, so I won't say one NEVER will.  But - I have several snakes here, and none of these do.

Good luck with you new pet!

I hope this has been helpful.
