1.)The cause of autism is not yet identified; however, overwhelming evidence suggests that biological and environmental factors are the possible cause or causes of this disorder.

2.)Autism continues to be on the rise as children around the world are diagnosed with this incurable, but possibly preventable disorder.

3.) Scientist have not identified the cause of autism, however, it is clear that biological and environmental factors are contributing factors of this increasingly diagnosed disorder.

4.)As studies move forward, it is clear that the environment and genetics play an important role in determining the specific cause or causes of autistic spectrum disorders.

* This is my first research paper and I appreciate any input that

You give me!

  1. Go with number two. Vaccines cause most autism and many scientists know this.

Current research indicates genetics accounts for only a tiny fraction.

David Ayoub- The AAP leadership knows very well that vaccines cause autism. We need not waste anymore efforts in trying to educating them, we need to indict them. They may me morally bankrupt, but they are not stupid.  They have lied to legislators, they have lied to journalists, they have lied to Pediatricians, and worse of all, they have lied to you and your children.....One thing is abundantly clear, the don't give a d**n about scientific truth and they don't give a d**n about you or your children. I hope the autism community continues to move forward and expose all those involved who have put millions of children in harm's way.

  2. All make bold statements, which are not supportable by the evidence available.

Four is best, but you might like to change to less 'definite' language.

Try "As studies move forward, some evidence suggests that both the environment and genetics might each play a role in determining the cause of autistic spectrum disorders."

Don't tell them the answer before you have researched the hypothesis.

  3. My 2nd child has autism. My 3rd child wasn`t vaccinated. Will be 3 in July, and shows no signs of autism. All this c**p about, they don`t know what causes autism,is a bunch of bull.True genetics play a role, but vaccines can push a childs immune system over the edge into autism. They contain live virises, not to mention mercury. We have been lied to.Lives have ben ruined, our government doesn`t give a d**n.Thats because many politicians, and big Pharmas are in each others back pockets.Making lots of money of the pain and suffering of thier fellow man. Many kids with autism are losing the label of autism with bio-medical therapys.Check out the autism research intstitute.Check out some autism bio-med groups on yahoo groups.

  4. Actually I have to be honest that none of them quite does it.  It's not preventable - that we know.  It does have a genetic basis - sometimes.  In short if you are going to have a paper where you are going to discuss what might be the cause - you are better off focusing on how many different directions research is going in.  If you start out by saying one factor or another is the WHY - you may run out of information - if you focus on the SEARCH you have more options.

Something like: Autism is on the rise in children around the world and the scientific community is searching for the reason why.

  5. IN MY VIEW THE LAST ONE WILL BE SUITABLE IF YOU ARE UNDERTAKING A RESEARCH THESIS[ AND NOT AN ASSIGNMENT].  BUT IT SHOULD START LIKE THIS:

"" THE STUDY IS DESIGNED TO IDENTIFY THE SPECIFIC ENVIRONMENTAL AND GENETIC FACTORS THAT ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CAUSING AUTISTIC SPECTRUM DISORDER IN HUMAN BEING".

THIS WILL WORK IN YOUR RESEARCH PROJECT.

THE SAME WITH CAN BE DEVELOPED AS A TOPIC: AFTER DELETING THE WORDS "THE STUDY IS DESIGNED TO IDENTIFY ...."

  6. I like #1

    'suggests' is a good word

#2 seems too limited-it is basically a wlee known fact that it is increasing-not much left to write about and you are assuming it might be preventable-you may not be able to back up your 'may be preventable' statement.

3.,4   'clear' sounds that is is verified and scientifically tested-which it is not

  7. All are strong.  I personally prefer a hybrid of 1 and 3:

The cause of autism is not yet identified; however, evidence suggests that biological and environmental factors contribute to the development of this increasingly diagnosed disorder.

  8. I like number 2 due to the fact that people need be aware that Autism is being diagnosed at a greater frequency. If they are aware of this fact, then maybe they will learn about Autism and discover that Autism is not a disease and it is not a Mental Illness. Autism is misunderstood by various people.

***I am a parent of a child that was born with Autism and Mental Retardation.***

  9. You are technically repeating 1 with 3. I'd go with one 3 sounds too sure of itself.  4 doesn't really work as it also sounds too sure of itself.

Go with a hybrid of 1 & 2. This explains what may be the causes and also explains that it is on the rise and is currently incurable. I'd drop the preventable bit as this has not been proven yet.

In a research paper you have to go with the evidence you have and not make assumptions or generalisations on evidence you don't have. So go with what you can currently prove about Autism, and use its proper term which is Autism Spectrum Disorder to begin with. You could then shorten it to Autism or ASD.
