i've ALWAYS wanted to learn guitar. i am completely and totally in love with rock music. all i want to do is to cover my favorite songs and stuff, i know it could take years and its not as easy as it looks. but to me, its worth the wait and practice.

do you think its too late for me to start learning guitar? i just turned 14. and should i start off with acoustic guitars first? because i want to end up playing electric.

i've seen people on youtube do guitar covers of my favorite songs. and where do they get the music? is there guitar music for every album that's out there? or do they just have so much skill that they listen carefully to the song and play it by ear?

and for people that knows how to play guitar, was it really hard when you first started off? was it boring?

and if it helps for your answer, i know how to read music. i've played piano for a year when i was 8, and at about 10, i started playing flute. and is still playing flute right now.

i know there's alot to answer, but please help?

im not saying that i want to be a musician when i grow up or anything. i just want to learn this instrument.

  1. yeah, definitely find an instructor.  Many People offer Private lessons. usually around 10-25 dollars a week.

I can clarify some things for you though. I play guitar and have played rock, metal, blues, and some jazz for a while.

    1. It's not to late.

    2. Acoustic or Electric is preference to what you feel comfortable with and the style of music you want to play. both come in beginner guitars.

    3. You can buy sheet music over the internet, at local retail music shop ect...

    4. Yes some people can develop an ear for music which allows them to hear the note and pitch of the sound produced and they can replicate it some people have perfect pitch which means that can replicate exactly what is played.  You definitly will need an instructor for ear training.

5.It's a challange at first becuase your using new muscles and thinking dif. but the payoff when you finnally get it is well worth the challenge.

    6. Tab is just a way to dumb down sheet music. If you can already read music i would stick with that. that's  just my opinion though.

here is what tab actually is and looks like

    e ----------------------------------------...

    B---------------------------------------...

    G---------------------------------5- 7--------------5-------

    D -------------------------5--7-----------...

    A --------------5--7----------------------...

    E ---5--8---------------------------------...

The lines represent the strings the e string is your thinnest string on the guitar( bottom string) and your E string is the thickest string on your guitar (or your top string) and the numbers represent the frets or the notes you play on that particular fret.

when a number is solo (like the first 10 numbers are i have above they are played individual or one at a time) when they set on top of each other they are played as a chord all at once.

You will need an instructor to help further explain all of this, but thats the basics of Tab. and you can find almost any song on the internet in Tabs for free, but not all of them are Accurate.

I hope this Helps Be patient, have fun, stay determined and you will succeed!

  2. You have a lot of questions. The best and most practical way to get answers and learn what you need is to find a private teacher. Check out the music stores and friends who play.

Don't make your decisions on strangers that tell you something is easy or cool.

    Get a teacher.

    Good Luck
