Will someone please help me interpret this?

There's really only one thing that i'm going to want to plug into the wall to charge in australia: my ipod wall charger. now, i found a plug converter, but it does not convert voltage. this is what is on the back of the charger concerning voltage:

INPUT: AC100-240V 50/60Hz0. 2a

OUT: DC5. 2v (+ or - sign) 5% 700mA

I have no idea what all that means. So, since Australian electricity is 220-240 volts, and American is 110-120, would i need a voltage converter for this device?

  1. 100-240 mean that the input can be anywhere from 100 to 240.  and it says the output is 5.2 volts dc.

  2. yes, no, i dont know

  3. No absolutely not.  It should work just fine.  The plug converter is designed to handle any location.  That is what Alternating Current 100 to 240 Volts means...that will accommodate Australia and the United States.

  4. If this is indeed on the original device all you need a plug converter to make it work.  This kind of charger is already ready for use in all countries on standard consumer line voltage.

    INPUT: AC100-240V 50/60Hz0. 2a

    OUT: DC5. 2v (+ or - sign) 5% 700mA

What it means is that it works on all voltages from 100 volts up to and including 240 volts.  What the 50/60 Hz means is that the device does not contain a transformer that will overheat when its run on 50 Hz current instead of 60 Hz current (that is good because some US devices would not like the UK or Europe line frequency of 50 Hz).

  5. You can plug the charger from 100 volts to  240 volts without using step-up transformer and also 50/60 Hz.  Your charger is safe to use anywhere in the world.
